I read an article recently about easy ways to go green at home and was astounded by the difference just one package of recycled toilet paper could make.
I found this well written description on Martha Stewarts website:
"With a focus on creating a greener environment, toilet-paper companies are increasingly offering recycled toilet paper. If every household in the United States bought just one four-pack of 260-sheet recycled bath tissue, it would prevent 60,600 pounds of chlorine pollution, preserve 356 million gallons of fresh water, and save 988,000 trees. Using recycled paper products saves manufacturers a trip into the forest and doesn’t require the energy needed to extract pulp from trees. Some brands are comparable in price to conventional toilet paper, and others cost a little more.
When you’re choosing toilet paper, select brands that are unbleached or non-chlorine-bleached, which may mean choosing a product that isn’t so bright. This will help keep dangerous toxins such as PCB and dioxin out of the environment."
These statistics apply to just one package (4 rolls) of toilet paper. Even if you only ever bought one package, what a difference it would make. Just think about it . . . . . . .
