Friday Thriftyness

Weather aside, winter is such a lonely season.  No yard sales, very few estate sales, just the thrift stores to keep one occupied.  But after christmas the shelves at the thrift store were nearly bare.  But spring is in the air, and today there was an estate sale!

When I got there to acquire my number, the usual suspects were already loitering outside and had no doubt snapped up the first 20 numbers or so.  I had to knock on the door  ??? and ask for a number.  It was 30.  Oh well.  Then come to find out the powers in charge (not the usual suspects) are only going to let 10 people in at a time.  Well that just means that the first 10 in (the dealers who no doubt have been there since dawn) will get the run of the place and have the pick and the rest of us will be let in once they are done to peruse the leftovers.

Always the conundrum, is it worth waiting for?  Well, I’ve already invested about 30 minutes so I’m in.  In for a penny, in for a pound.

I should have left with my penny, once I got in there was nothing decent to be had (not sure there was anything to begin with).  I bought a seashell, big whup.

Oh heck, I’ll check out the thrift stores.  Maybe I’ll find something.

It turned out to be a decent thrifty friday, I’ll share.

The latest idea circling around my brain is deconstructing/reconstructing thrifted clothing.  This 100% linen chemise with an empire waist is perfect.

Oh my goodness, I love this one!  Right out of 1976 or there abouts.  I can’t wait to do something fun with this one.

I about peed my pants when I found this and looked inside to the label.  Betsy Johnson!

Another great find!  This chenille spread is a beautiful silver green.  SO perfect for me to turn it into a dust ruffle for my bed.  Remember when this happened!

Isn’t this fabulous!  I can’t wait to hang it in the garden and watch it start to rust.

Last but not least do you know what this is?  I was so excited to find it.  It’s a tingler.  And if you don’t know what this is for, then you need to get one and find out!

  3. I loved Betsy Johnson back in the day (when I could wear it). One of the pattern companies carried her designs and I loved making them. Wish I still had those patterns.
I look forward to seeing what you create from your finds.

  4. Awesome haul, Suzy. I love the vintage dress, too!
Ahhhh, yes, the tingler. The only tingle in my life that ever made me go EWWWWWWWWWWW…
The thought of it being demo’d on 100 mall shoppers then they try to stick it in my head. Also, they seem to come at you with it instead of asking if they can.
I did let the person demo a fresh one on my and OMG it is bliss! Promise me you will clean it first before use! :O)
I am not a germophobe and you can stop laughing now!

  6. I hit a sale this morning too. Came up with the same result. One woman complained that it should be illegal to have a sale like that (lol). I used to wear Betsy Johnson when she first started out…boy, do I wish that I had saved those outfits! I’m off to google tingler. xxoo, Susan

  7. Groovy 70’s dress!!
Peeing your pants would not be a good idea (My mom and aunt both peed theirs in Zayres, remember those stores, laughing at a pair of suede shoes, which I might add were not saleable after they took them off) Not sure what a tingler is..off to find out!!

She’s my favorite designer and I have many of her creations in my closet, purse collection, etc. In fact, I bought a pair of BJ sunglasses tonight!
