Back in Time

I left today on a business trip and ended up in 1956.

Grab the Coppertone and meet me down on the beach.

I'm in Wildwood, NJ and it is filled with funky, kitschy seaside motels.  I have entered a time warp and I am back in the 50's or 60's and early 70's.

Didn't every seaside resort town have a motel called the Jolly Roger! Can't forget the pirate.

I love the neon seahorse.

Look at the graphics on the sign at the bottom here at the Fleur de Lis.

The above ground power lines really add to that old fashioned charm.

I love the aqua and peach colors on this one.  The fake palm trees are perfect!

This is the Cape Cod Inn. I'm sure that back in the day this sign actually rotated.

  3. I’ve been going to Wildwood for 30 years now. We used to go alone as a couple, then with the kids and now, my whole family gets together once a year down there. We have such a good time. The beaches are the best! We also love Cape May. Wish I knew that you were going to be there…maybe next time. xxoo, Susan

  4. OH, Flashback to the Doo-Wop era, that is such a neat place, it has been about 10 years since I have been there!!
In October they have a weekend dedicated to the 1950’s….I would love to be there that weekend (of course it would be nice if they celebrated with the hotels having 1950’s room rates!!)

  5. Ha, ha…I dig it! These motels look like they’ll be used as settings for “Mad Men”. I had a similar moment when I saw my SIL’s apartment building for the first time the other day. The spacious lobby looked like an early 1960s swanky dentist office – the double open stairs, rocky walls, the sofa…it was actually cool that it has never been updated.

  6. I love these. How lucky that works takes you to these fun places. I am marking this as a place to take the boys. Thanks, for the great photos.
