Santa meets Barkcloth

This guy is one of my favorites.  I found him on eBay a few years back.  I had no doubt typed in the keyword "barkcloth" and was searching to expand my ever expanding vintage textile collection.

I came across this guy and just had to bid.  The opening bid was ridiculously low and I didn't put in a very high proxy either.  I was so pleased when I won him for the opening bid, I couldn't believe my good fortune.  I felt a brief pang of remorse for the creator, that her time, effort and design was not sought after by more bidders.  But that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes on eBay.  It's a crap shoot.  And my lucky number hit!

The details on this guy are fabulous.  He has a little sack full of goodies, a pink chenille coat and barkcloth trousers and hat.  His face is handpainted and his beard is soft.

Yesterday I quickly ran into downtown Hampton to see what my favorite little trio of cute shops had to offer for the holidays.  I found some wonderful goodies, especially this planter box.

It's out on my porch, but I think I need to fill it with something festive for the holidays, don't ya think?

  1. That is a very cool Santa! What a lucky girl to get him at such a low price-I love it when that happens! And the flower box is really neat-Salmon pink and green poinsettias-maybe?At least thats what I would do-but then they would have to be inside if it is cold.

  2. I love the Santa. If you share her eBay seller name, perhaps in the future she might actually gain a bit of a following. It would be great to support all artist’s in their work, especially those with such talent.

  4. That Santa is beautiful. I just love the barkcloth. I too feel bad for the Seller sometimes, but they need to mark their hand-made creations at what they are worth!
    You go girl.
