Found this lovely jar at the thrift store last week. It was a bargain price of $4 since it was missing it's glass lid.
This thrift store keeps a bin of orphan lids for sale so I dug around and came up with one that is a perfect fit and vintage as well.
Perfect storage for something, hmm………

I have a few of those same jars — they are such a fun shape, size and color! I like your solution. I think a lot of the lids broke on those particular jars over the years, because I usually find them with a few chips in them. Poor design maybe? I think it looks great with a stainless steel “hat”!
